Artists-in-Residence
The Artist-in-Residence program in the College of Music began in 1996 with the establishment of the John R. Bourgeois Endowed Visiting Professorship. In 1999, the college added a second artist-in-residence: pianist, composer/arranger, and choral director Moses Hogan, who held that position until his untimely death in 2002. In that same year a third artist, jazz trumpeter Nicholas Payton, was added to the residency program. In 2003, Loyola alum Ellis Marsalis joined the program and serves not only the Jazz Studies program, but also in the Music Business Program.Col. John R. Bourgeois USMC (Ret.)
