"The Bug" by Richard Strand

The season kicks off with Richard Strand’s comedy "The Bug" directed by Benjamin Clement. The play combines Kafka’s eerie vision with a soulless world run by computers and the result is Strand’s comic nightmare of a play.

"The Bug" is the story of Dennis Post, an insecure, somewhat hysterical employee of Jericho Corporation, a company which manufactures automation equipment. Fearful that he might be relocated, Post attempts to appeal to the mysterious Mark Kropp, the president of Jericho, but first, he must deal with three dehumanizing middle managers. When Post discovers a “bug” in Jericho’s elaborate computer system, the comfortable world of his three colleagues is shattered.

"As a mere bug in the system grows into a monster that shatters the bureaucratic façade, the subversive elements of Strand’s comedy fall into place…and you may never feel quite the same about your office again." – The San Francisco Examiner

"The Bug" will run in the Loyola’s Lower Depths Theatre, 6363 St. Charles Avenue (Corner of Calhoun and St. Charles), on October 5, at 2 p.m., and October 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $8 students, seniors, and children. Purchase tickets now>>

The Vienna Boys Choir
Sunday, November 9, 3 p.m., Holy Name of Jesus Church

In 1498, more than half a millennium ago, Emperor Maximilian I moved his court and his court musicians from Innsbruck to Vienna. He gave specific instructions that there were to be six boys among his musicians. For want of a foundation charter, historians have settled on 1498 as the official foundation date of the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle and - in consequence - the Vienna Boys Choir. Until 1918, the choir sang exclusively for the imperial court, at mass, at private concerts and functions and on state occasions.

Musicians like Heinrich Isaac, Paul Hofhaimer, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, Johann Joseph Fux, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Caldara, Antonio Salieri and Anton Bruckner worked with the choir. Composers Jacobus Gallus and Franz Schubert, and the conductors Hans Richter, Felix Mottl and Clemens Krauss were themselves choristers. Brothers Joseph and Michael Haydn were members of the choir of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and sang frequently with the imperial boys’ choir. Read more >>
