The Loyola Music Industry club, Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA) will hold the 2006 Southeast Regional Conference on campus Saturday, October 14, 2006, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
The one day MEISA conference focuses on the latest trends in the music and entertainment industry and features producer and musician George Howard as the keynote speaker, as well as a panel with well-known radio executives, and various music industry related workshops throughout the day. The conference concludes with a question and answer session and performance by Glasgow!
The goal of the conference is to facilitate access to professionals in the industry, to gain knowledge from speakers and workshops given at the conference, and to make connections by networking with others who share similar interests in the music and entertainment industry
"This experience will give students, musicians, and anyone interested in the music industry, a beneficial look into the music industry as well as provides an opportunity for them to network with industry leaders," explains Sandy Hinderlie, internationally-known musician and associate professor of music.
Admission to the conference is $15 admission, and is open to the public.

Howard is the assistant professor of Music Industry Studies at Loyola University New Orleans and an industry insider who as a producer and musician founded his first independent label, Slow River Records, in 1993. In 1995, Slow River entered into a co-venture with Rykodisc, one of the world's largest independent labels. In 1999, he became president of Rykodisc where he signed and/or guided the careers of artists such as Kelly Willis, Robert Cray, Josh Rouse, the Tom Tom Club and many others. His production credits include Kelly Joe Phelps, Chuck E. Weiss (with Tom Waits), Jess Klein, Matthew, and Peter Bruntnell. Howard recently founded Essex River Works. Howard has produced compilation records from the London Symphony Orchestra, Billie Holiday, and Charlie Parker. Howard has written a number of books on the music industry published by Berklee press, including: Getting Signed! An Insider's Guide to the Record Industry, Music Publishing 101, and Music Business Contracts. Howard has taught at Northeastern University, the University of Massachusetts, and is a frequent lecturer at Berklee College of Music. He has been at Loyola University New Orleans since 2004.
